McIntosh, the first African-American pediatrician in Jacksonville, Florida. Our building, more than a mere architectural landmark, stands as a testament to the trailblazing legacy of Dr. Charles B. McIntosh. As a graduate of Old Stanton High School and Jacksonville's inaugural Black American pediatrician, Dr. McIntosh holds the distinction of being the first Black American to sit on the Florida Board of Medical Examiners. His enduring impact in Sickle Cell research and healthcare serves as an ongoing inspiration.

Dr. Charles B. McIntosh's life and contributions were nothing short of inspirational. A Building with a Storied Past:
Our organization is based in the heart of the Eastside Historic District, an area rich in history and culture. This historic building with a unique and deeply meaningful history of its own. This building was where Dr. Charles B. McIntosh ran his first medical practice, saving countless lives within its walls. It also served as the home of Dr. McIntosh's pioneering sickle cell studies, housing a full lab dedicated to this groundbreaking research. this historic building played host to an extraordinary visit by Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. During a visit to Gainesville, Dr. King fell under the weather and expressed a desire to consult with a trusted African American physician. Despite the distance, Dr. King and his associates made the journey to Jacksonville to seek the expertise of Dr. Charles B. McIntosh, recognizing him as a beacon of excellence in the medical community.
Restoring the Building for Community Use:
The funds we raise will be invested in the restoration of this historic structure, ensuring that it becomes a vibrant, useful space for our community. This building will be a center for education, culture, and community engagement. It will house exhibits and programs that celebrate the legacy of Dr. McIntosh, the history of our neighborhood, and the significant role this building played in both saving lives and advancing medical knowledge through sickle cell research.
